Funny the way it is...

I was stopped by Harry's PE teacher today so he could tell me he's convinced Harry will grow up to be a famous sportscaster. He can picture it now! Those of you who know him will be amused by this. But really, isn't this how things work?
It added a little smile to my day. Harry is a social kid. He has lots of friends. He does well in school. But, he has excessive nasality. He's working on it, and some days it is better than others. We try not to let it get to us. Everyone has obstacles and this one is so minor. It really is nice to have someone finally put a positive spin on it, though!

Another one bites the dust!

Tooth #2 is gone. Lost. Swallowed.
We won't be searching for it.
I suspect it was lost in an oreo.
Almost lost at the climbing gym.
Missing by the time we got home.
We left the Tooth Fairy a note.
She left a buck.

Growing Up

I am not sure what is going on at school, or if that is even who I should credit, but Harry is becoming uber polite and thoughtful. He makes a point of thanking us for helping him with mundane things, like fixing his belt. He asks how we slept. He is appreciative if I swing by to have lunch with him.
This morning he forgot his backpack and ran back in to get it. In the 30 seconds that it took us to leave the house, Bailey had knocked over the "Stuff Bin" and was attempting to eat up Harry's lunch. Instead of running out to tell me Bailey was a bad dog, he stayed inside and cleaned up the mess. I can't say I would have done that! He was a little bit teary eyed about what a horrible disaster it was and how heavy things were (I think there were jackets, a couple of toys and his soccer bag!), but that was the extent of the complaint. Wow! This is getting impressive!

So Proud of My Harry!!!

Harry had a huge weekend, though he probably doesn't even realize it.
Friday he had celebrated Halloween with Rec, then I picked him up to attend the remainder of the Abra Halloween party. With so many Halloween parties this year (why was that!?) he got full use out of this years costume (Ninja), the costume from Jackson's bday party (Jedi...he was Anikin), and even wore last years costume to Rec (Medieval Knight).
Saturday we rushed off to the MCM Race expos. After years of helping Mommy & Daddy pick up packets, Harry walked up to the table and got his own for the MCM Healthy Kids Fun Run...and he rocked his first 1-Miler! Hard as I tried, I couldn't control my actual sobs! So proud of all of these kids- and their parents...and the marines who do such a fabulous job organizing these events. Don't get me started again on the marines. I will cry again!
After the race we headed back downtown to the Jon Stewart Rally to Restore Sanity. Harry was, as many commented, underwhelmed...until he got to ride on Kevin's shoulders. WOW! I can see everything from up here! Several of the political signs were well received as well.
  • I love you. You love me. We all love our country. (held up by Barney the Dinosaur)
  • "Welcome Great Pumpkin"
  • A cow holding a pro-soy milk sign
All in all, an excellent first political rally!
The weekend brought visits from family, Meghan and PopPop Goo. This included a 2 night sleep over with Meghan! Eating out. A Haunted House party at the Mallone's. Star Wars DVDs. Oh, and Trick-or-Treating!
Dressed as a Jedi after his Star Wars viewing, Harry spent an hour practicing his Jedi moves on the lawn, "marched" with friends in the neighborhood Halloween parade, and then took off in search of as much candy as he could find. Some commented that he was "a professional" at gathering candy. Others may have assumed he was in need of some crazy sugar fix. Even though he took off on his own at one point I was most proud of him for this. His motivation was selfless. He was trying to collect as much candy as he could carry so they Great Pumpkin would collect it and send it to the troops. You see, the Great Pumpkin comes every year to collect our candy and leave non-edible treats. Harry gets to keep a few pieces, which he never really gets around to eating anyway. Last night I let him have as much as he wanted anyway after his crazy weekend. Probably 5 pieces, tops. I filled him in that this year the GP was donating candy through Operation Gratitude. The boy was on a mission! He will do anything for our soldiers (hopefully this will never include enlisting!). He's a good kid.
