Worlds Colliding

So Uncle Kris brought these 2 packs of Star Wars figurines for Harry some time back - thinking maybe for his birthday last year - and one Harry opened right up (Luke & Han in Hoth gear I think) but this one with Darth Vader & ROTJ Luke was still un-opened in his closet, until today.

Rainy Sundays offer time to get things done, especially if I can get Ainsley out of the house. So while I took her off for our weekly jaunt to Costco, Kim and Harry worked on some serious re-org in his room. Somewhere along the line, the second Star Wars pack must've made an appearance, because it was the first thing Harry wanted to open up after dinner.

A little back story... Harry hasn't seen any of the Star Wars movies yet. I saw Episode IV when it first came out in '78 making me 5 or 6 at the time (can't remember what time of year it was), but that would put Harry at right about the right time to see them, maybe this Summer. That said, I'm pretty sure a few of the boys in his class have seen at least a few of them.

So as he's playing with Vader & Luke, he asked simply, "Daddy, why does Luke have a blue light saber and a green one?"

Hmmm... sounds easy enough. "The blue one was from his Dad, and he made the green one himself."

Phew. Not sure where this is going, but so far no biggie.

He immediately follows up with, "Daddy, is Darth Vader Luke Skywalker's Daddy?"

SERIOUSLY? I had to wait like four more years to find that out, and when we did it was like the biggest bombshell of the century????

After some serious trepidation, "Um... yes bud. Darth Vader is Luke's Daddy."

"Why does he have 2 different hands... did something happen to him?"

Are you KIDDING ME?? Do you and your friends sit around and discuss the various plot twists of the Star Wars Saga?

Ugh... "Well bud, his Darth Vader and him got in a fight and it got cut off, so he had a new one made."

"You mean his Daddy"

"Well yes..."

"Who is his Mommy?"

HOLY CRAP! I didn't even find that out for sure until a few years ago with the prequels!!!

"Um... Padme is his Mom"

"So she likes both of them?"

"Both of who?"

"The 2 Luke's"

OK... ENOUGH. So he's already established that Vader is Luke's father, who cut off his hand, Padme is his mother, and that there are 2 of them...!

So yes, it's obviously now time to watch them all (in the original order of course) but come on already, he knows the entire plot???

So much for that.

Kim meanwhile, laughing hysterically throughout this entire exchange...

We won't even get into my reaction when he kept putting Vader's helmet on Luke.
