News Flash! Boy Requests School Lunch!

Miss Natalie informed me TUESDAY AFTERNOON that on MONDAY Harry requested fish sticks! He said it was true. He ate two of them. I just can't believe he didn't mention it. He says he also ate peas and bread and fruit yesterday, but not the Turk-a-roni. Can you blame him?
Good for you, Harry!
He's trying. And no one even mentioned that he eat school lunch these days. Last night, after some discussion over dinner, he told Kevin
I will eat whatever you make.

Life Lessons

Harry is playing hooky from schol today. He is home explaining to PopPop the importance of trying new foods. "If you try it, you might like it."
It is also important to wear a seatbelt, as we all know, "so you can be safe."
The other day Harry explained it was okay for me to share Kevin's socks because we "sleep in the same bed and spend (our) time together."
I'm just waiting to hear Harry explain the virtues of keeping your toenails short!

What I am hearing, over the baby monitor, are PopPops life lessons:

You've gotta keep your hair combed so the girls like ya. I comb my hair for
"Aunt" Ann(a).

Those are whiskers. You'll have whiskers when you grow up. You'll have to shave.

You gonna be like PopPop when you grow up? You gonna drive a big truck, too?

Snoedels, Snoedels everywhere!

No longer content to sit rolled up in a ball in the corner of the bed or sofa, Snoedels have now been seen spreading their wings all over the house. Harry reports it is so he can see which one has his name on it.

I Got A New Way To Walk. Walk. Walk.

Today was beautiful and Ainsley was home with Kevin, so I decided today would be a good day to walk Harry home from school. It's only about 2 miles. Several of the teachers, knowing where we live, suggested this was ambitious. Harry was all for it. He offered to carry the snack bag I brought and he went in to use the potty before we departed.
2 miles may be far for a lot of 4 year olds, but Harry refused a stroller when at Disney a month after getting a cast off at age 2. His leg was likely still broken. He walked the whole day with no complaints. He hikes. He's good to go. The worst part of the walk was that he wanted to ride his "2 wheeler", which we did do when we got home, albeit for just 5 minutes since it was dinner time anyway.
We had lovely conversation on the way home, which continued through dinner. For the first time in many months Harry asked if he could start "best/worst part of the day." He also ate his ENTIRE dinner (a meat calzone and cucumbers) without complaining and didn't mention desert once. After his bath he even asked if Kevin could dress him because "Daddy didn't have any time with me today."
Kevin may be focused on penmanship, but I am completely committed to balance and the rejuvenating properties of both yoga and nature (even if it's by way of King Street).

Had to happen sooner or later...

...I just didn't think it'd be this soon.

It's official. Harry received his first pre-approved credit card application today, for a Platinum MasterCard, 0% Introductory APR, and a credit limit of up to $100,000.

Who knew his credit was so good? See what happens when you pay your magazine subscription on time?

A Very Happy Mother's Day

While watching Little Bill with Harry this morning, the dad commented that what every mother wants for Mother's Day is to sleep in and have breakfast in bed. I'm not so sure about the breakfast in bed, but sleeping in is definitely key! I got to do that until little feet came up the stairs with a very special present: a DVD player just for me! Now I can move my Pilates Machine into Ainsley's room (with the plan to store it under her crib) and use the DVD player for workout videos. There is really no room to workout anywhere else, so this is super exciting.
After a tasty breakfast of creme brulee french toast, we all got dressed to go to the church at Harry's school. It was a celebration day for Teacher Appreciation Week and Mother's Day. Ainsley slept sweetly during the service and crazy man read from the hymnal and then rolled around under the pews. Luckily we were in the back row. Also, luckily it is a kid friendly place. It seemed like our kid was the worst behaved, but other parents begged to differ. A meltdown ensued when we didn't allow Harry to stay after to share orange cheese puffs with the church community. It was nice to be out with people in a friendly, calm, happy environment, but this was still church. Let's not push it!
Later Harry had ice skating with Kevin, so I had some time to catch up on phone calls and email while Ainsley continued to sleep. She's had the same gastrointestinal affliction that my carrier monkey gave us both, so she needed the rest, as did I.
After skating, Harry decided he wanted to do yoga with me. I found an old yoga mat that appears to be kid sized. He loves it and has used it for everything from an actual yoga mat to a sled. For about an hour we took turns sharing yoga poses. Many of his were right on. It was awesome to have him express interest on his own in something I love so much. I promised him we could do more yoga tonight. It is anything but relaxing, but it's burning some calories!

Quote of the Month

It's Hard Being 4.

It's NOT because of baby sister.
I don't even think it's having to make his bed in the morning.
I think it's that he keeps falling and getting hurt.
Today he said he doesn't want to go back to school. He's been injured every day. All self-inflicted from falling. Poor kid. Everyone tells him they've been there.

The final countdown

Monk's Got Nothin' on Me!

Apparently vinegar, mayo and tea tree shampoo are good weapons in the fight against lice.
Others disagree.
I can barely function right now. All I can think about are lice. I emailed Harry's school to see if anyone else has had any problems at all. I haven't heard back. I can only assume Miss Carol is afraid to return to the school due to the head lice issue.
So, here is the deal. A Munchkin apparently had headlice. The munchkins are usually in a different room than the bigger kids. The big kids are never in the munchkin room. Munchkins may have been in the Genie room during the day, but not the Wizard room. So, a Munchkin could have rolle don the floor in the Genie room, and then Harry could have rolled in the same spot. Of course, I've read headlice don't usually leave their host. At least, in Australia schools were sprayed with insecticide and dead lice were not spotted. Ancient lore tells us other wise, but more commonly head to head contact causes lice.
So, if Harry DID have lice, which I have not found evidence of, they would most commonly be behind his ears or the base of his neck. I HAVE HAD HAIR TO HAIR CONTACT WITH HIM. But, it has been the tops of our heads for the most part. But I could still have them, right????

Not Just Derby Day

Kentucky Derby may be tomorrow (see, I know stuff! But what can Brown do for me?), but Harry's very first Sleep Over is tonight. We will welcome Sage at 6PM. Sage, as you probably know, is a friend from Menike....so he is someone we know fairly well. I actually thing, dare I say, that it will go well. Harry is happy "to have someone to talk to and play with." He woke up today, came upstairs, and instead of saying good morning informed us that Sage is coming over today. All this without a calendar!
In other news, I am so freaked out that I have head lice I can't stand it!!!!
